External Intrusion has caused PSN outages

Sony has finally posted another update regarding their PSN outages. This time with a bit more of information regarding what might have caused the problem. In the post,Patrick Seybold from Sony has declared:

An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th. Providing quality entertainment services to our customers and partners is our utmost priority. We are doing all we can to resolve this situation quickly, and we once again thank you for your patience. We will continue to update you promptly as we have additional information to share.

It all sounds like Sony intentionally shut down their services in order to track whoever was "intruding" their network, however, this latest statement is very different from the ones we heard before in which Sony explained that they did not know what was the reason for the PSN going offline, or their post claiming that the issue was related to problems in Japan. In the meantime the media has focused on hacker group anonymous, but since then the infamous group has released statements claiming that they had nothing to do with this latest attack and that if they ever do have any retaliation against Sony, it will be without damaging the online experience of PSN users.

All in all it is not clear at this point what is going on within Sony or when the services are going to get back up. We here at kickarss feel that the gaming giant has been less than truthful with the gaming community and that they haven't really explained what is exactly going on or what is the real reason why their services are being kept offline. We are hoping that anytime this coming weekend we will have a PSN up and running, but only time will tell.

Please let us know what are your thoughts about how Sony has handled this issue of the PSN being down, or any thoughts related to the matter.
