PSN Down? Here is a fix

E-mail Print PDF

Fix your PSN access

Just in case you are not aware of it, for the past couple of days a hacker group called anonymous has been attacking all playstation websites including the PSN network used for PS3 systems to provide online content, we thought we would let you know about some workarounds going around the net on how to get this issue fixed. Here is an alternative:

Go to Network Settings * Internet Connection Settings * Custom * Select your connection method * Manual Settings * Scroll through until you get to DNS Settings - Select Manual * Enter 8.8.8.8 for Primary and 8.8.4.4 for Secondary

Now we should let you know beforehand that this is not a proven method and what is doing is redirecting the DNS (Domain Name Service) from the original PSN servers to google's DNS servers. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 are the ip addresses for the official Google DNS. A DNS converts ip addresses into readable website names and assists in related network traffic.According to reports of a good number of users, the fix seems to work for some but not for others. We just thought that you might want to give it a try.

Also, at the rate things are going for Sony, this might not be the only attack that PSN users might have to endure. Anonymous seem to be in this for the long haul and we would not be surprised if the PSN network takes a while to get stable once again. You might want to keep this workaround handy even if PSN is working right now, because it might not work so well in the near future.

Please let us know if this fix is working for you, or not, on the comments section below

Poor reporting. Anon has said they are not responsible. There is no denying that it could be someone from them, but not as an entity. When people responded negatively to their 1st attack, they pulled back, apologized and left it. Their goal is to hurt Sony, not the public. The best you can claim is that Anon, was presumably behind the attack. As any reporter worth any damn, you never should be presumptuous. That's what Fox News is for.

I agree on everything you said. What I would like to make you aware of is the fact that there were two attacks. The first one was certainly anonymous, they claimed the attack themselves, and also they shutdown playstation websites along with the PSN. The second time around anonymous had nothing to do with the attack, and even Sony acknowledged that the hacker group was not involved. This article refers to the first one.

Very well said Highlander. You bought that thing for dual purpose and u were dissapointed buy sony update. But what u are supporting is right? There is way to fight with sony. You can sue them, this is legal thing. But hacking is not a solution of those updates. They will build a brand new security wall and you all start spending several of hours to break that security instead of other work. And may be they will cought you next time and remember according to us law, you will sentenced for 10 years. Be positive.
