Prey 2 Might Be Coming Soon

Prey 2 could be the next game for Bethesda Softworks

It looks like Bethesda Softworks has been set to officially produce the next "Prey 2". According to french magazine Joystick, it has been indicated that the game is now under development and could be published by Bethesda and Human Head Studios by the first quarter of 2012. The game was planned to be developed as far back as 2008. At the time Human Head Studios was reportedly working on Prey 2, but Bethesda Softworks' parent company Zenimax Media bought the rights to the game which was formerly a 3D Realms and 2K Games property. This business deal put its development on hold, apparently, until now.

The first Prey game was considered a success by the critics. It followed Tommy, a Cherokee garage mechanic who was abducted by aliens along with his girlfriend Jen. During his journey to save the earth and his girlfriend, Tommy uses in game portals that allow him to warp between two different points in space. The extensive use of physics that allow the players to warp views by clinging to walls and ceilings is also a trademark of the Prey series.

Prey 2 will be developed more than likely using the ID Tech 4 (Doom 3) Engine since it is a Bethesda production. With a tight schedule for 2011, Bethesda Studios has already a good number of games coming out, such as Brink, Hunted: The Demon's Forge and ID Software's Rage. The fact that Prey 2 might be released sometime in 2012 does not sound like an unreasonable date.

At this point production of the game has not been confirmed, but if the french Magazine of Joystick is accurate, it will be just a matter of time before Bethesda does the official announcement for Prey 2.
