Since the beginning of the year the media has been expecting the day the "Playstation Phone" would be announced. Last week the official Sony Xperia Play was finally unveiled at the Mobile Wold Congress in Barcelona Spain. Since so much speculation has been done already and most of the information about Sony latest smartphone has been leaked out, some of the specs should not come as a surprise: The Xperia Play combines a Playstation-quality gaming experience with the very latest Android smartphone OS, Gingerbread (Version 2.3), dedicated game controls and the availability of Playstation games on the android market.
Of course we at kickarss are mostly concerned about the gaming capabilities of the device. The Xperia Play will work as a regular Android phone and will have all the bells and whistles that are expected on a smartphone, however, once the game pad is out, the user will get access to two analog touch pads, two shoulder buttons and the four familiar playstation buttons: circle, square, triangle and cross. The graphics will be driven by an embedded Adreno GPU graphic processor that according to Sony will deliver 60fps with minimal power consumption to ensure long battery and game time.
Also there was an announcement of two other versions the smartphone will be available in: the Xperia Pro and Xperia Neo, two upcoming smartphones that Sony introduced alongside the Xperia Play. The Xperia Play will be available in late March, early April from Verizon Wireless in the U.S. Pricing has not been announced – that will be handled by the carriers – but it will likely be in line with the company's X10 device.
As far as game catalog, at the Mobile World Congress was said that 20 publishing companies expected to develop games for this device and 50 titles are predicted to launch this year. Some of the companies names were EA, Glu Mobile, Gameloft whereas Dead Space, FIFA, Assassin’s Creed are the popular games confirmed for Xperia Play . These games will be exclusive for the Xperia play and will not be competing with the recently announced NGP.
