UPDATE: APRIL 21, 2011:A trademark application for "Hitman: Absolution," submitted by Square Enix, is under review by OHIM, the European Union's trademark and designs registry. The filing has been classified under "video game software," indicating that it could be the title of the next Hitman game.
IO Interactive have been leading members of their online community to hunt for a string of clues and teasers that now have lead to final confirmation that a fifth Hitman game is coming soon and that more details will be announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June. The game was confirmed to be in development last year, but no news had been released and there was fear that the series might have been in trouble.
We are pleased to announce that there are certain indications that the continuation of the Hitman series is actually going to be produced. A number of job listings have been posted on the IO interactive official website, where a lead character design artist, game programmers and other various spots have been put up for grabs. The job listings do not confirm that are hitman 5 related, however, they say they are for a "Unannounced AAA action title" and also mentions that the project is the most exciting the game studio has worked on the last ten years.
To show even more proof that the Hitman 5 game is in the works, there have been also some screenshots leaked, the series of images that were involved in the Artificial Reality Game seem to reference the CN Tower in Toronto in one way or another, suggesting that the new game will take place – at least partially – in Canada. The images also reference assassins agency controller Diana, who has been the handler for Agent 47 in past instalments in the series. The developers have promised more details at E3 and we are suspecting a 2012 release date.
