Brink: Review

Thursday, 12 May 2011 12:12 Published in Reviews

The highly publicized Brink is a fresh new game with gameplay that has never been done before, it is a first person shooter with a focus on free running and multiplayer modes.

The game on paper sounds great but is sadly held back by repetition, graphical problems and a boring storyline that takes a big chunk out of the fun factor. Brink is set in the near future, on top of a floating city called the Ark, the city is split into two areas, one belonging to the security force and the other belonging to a rebel force.

Homefront Review

Tuesday, 15 March 2011 11:16 Published in Reviews

Homefront is a first-person shooter that challenges players to survive and impact a fictional future scenario in which America has been economically devastated and occupied by a foreign power. In the face of overwhelming oppression, you must choose whether to submit to military forces, take the fight to the enemy or even throw your lot in with the invaders. Additional features include: a single player campaign written by Hollywood screenwriter John Milius, online multiplayer support for up to 32 players, ground and vehicular combat, and more.

Bulletstorm Review

Writing about games always comes with a peculiar kind of self-defeating dissonance. This morning, I might have grabbed a metaphorical megaphone and shoved it in some ebert's ear, right before laying out why Shadow of the Colossus is such a magnificent meditation on loss and sacrifice and etc. "Games involve and encourage and inspire!" I'd say. "It's for grownups, you know."

Dead Space 2 Review

Sunday, 02 January 2011 18:18 Published in Reviews
Visceral Games’ 2008 sci-fi horror hit Dead Space was one of my favorite games of that year, not to mention the scare-your-pants-off spookiest title I’ve played this console generation. Its effective mix of fast action, atmospheric frights, and light puzzling--all bathed in over-the-top gore--provided an experience that begged for a sequel. Thankfully, EA is providing exactly that in early 2011, when Dead Space 2 hits like a Plasma Cutter beam to the throat.

Killzone 3 Multiplayer Preview

Sunday, 14 November 2010 20:09 Published in Reviews

So if you’ve played Killzone 2, you’ll know that it graphics were probably the best seen in any console FPS so far, and in my view Killzone 3 has raised the bar even further. The graphics are as sharp and crisp as anything you’re likely to see, even though this is only a beta, there’s no let up in any sense, which is a real credit to the brilliant developers at Guerrilla Games. There are 3 maps to get to grips with within the beta but the Frozen Dam map is one level where we really think both graphics really shine; with whirling snow coming down adding to the overall semi-wrecked look of the map.

Call of Duty Black Ops Review

The three-dimensional craze isn't going to stop any time soon as Activision announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops will be 3D compatible on every system (Xbox 360, PS3 and PC with the proper NVIDIA chipset) when it launches on November 9.

I got the chance to swing by the W Hotel in San Francisco last week to check out Black Ops in 3D. While I'm not a huge fan of having to wear glasses to get the 3D effect, there's no denying that Call of Duty uses the technology as well as any other game I've seen.
